My musings and opinions on all the issues that tiny businesses face. From frequently asked questions I come across each week, to hot topics of the moment, if you have a question or issue, you’ll find the answers in this section.

How Often Should You Post On Your Facebook Business Page?

People ask me how often they should post on their Facebook pages.

There is conflicting advice out there, but from years of trialling different ways, my tried and tested answer is ... As often as you can consistently post quality content.

You see, if you post multiple times a day, to make sure you're 'out there' and in front of people, you could actually be doing more harm than good.

Facebook will reduce the reach of all your content if the majority of what you put out isn't engaging, resonating and relating to people. You have to remember that Facebook was created as a way of connecting and engaging with people first and foremost NOT as a business directory - so it makes sense for them to want your content to encourage conversations and relationships between your brand and your audience. Admittedly, Facebook is the hardest platform to master in terms of organic (free) engagement and reach.

If you can't put out content that does that regularly, then post less!

In a recent study, Hubspot found that pages under 10,000 fans experienced a 50% DROP in engagement per post if they posted more than once per day.

I personally would recommend 3 to 4 times a week, and spread that content out.

Too many updates all at once (a post at 8am, one at 11am, one at 12 pm etc) will turn your audience off and make them unfollow or turn notifications off)

There are different guidelines for all the social platforms, with X (Twitter) being the exception - the more the better on there!

Above all though, the key is consistency!!

I can't stress how important that is. If you post 3 times a week, then do that EVERY week! Posting 20 times this week, twice next week, miss a week, then 20 again the week after plays havoc with the algorithm and will not do you any favours.

Hence why it is ALWAYS better to plan content and schedule in advance, so it's done. You'll see some examples below from this week's Insights from some of my client pages. Their reach and engagement is going up steadily now I'm creating and scheduling the content on for them using my theory.

PRO TIP!

A top tip is to try out your content on X first and see what works best, then use that content over on Facebook.
